BATTLE GROUND — No. 4 Hockinson scored a pair of third-quarter touchdowns to rally past Ellensburg 21-15 on Saturday afternoon in the first round of the Class 2A state football playoffs.

Bulldogs senior Dion Hardeman found the end zone on a 6-yard run to give Ellensburg a 6-0 lead.

Hockinson answered less than two minutes later and converted the extra point to take the lead.

The Bulldogs fired right back on a 65-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Ferguson to Brenden Swanson.

Ellensburg would add a safety in the final seconds of the half to take a 15-7 lead into the intermission.

Hawks quarterback Levi Crum, however, would throw a 63-yard touchdown pass and scamper in from three yards out to cap the scoring.

Ferguson finished with 194 yards passing and Swanson had four receptions for 94 yards for the Bulldogs, who finished the season 4-6.

Hockinson (10-1) will meet Lakewood in the quarterfinals.

NAPAVINE — Mabton's surprise playoff run ended Saturday with a loss to the second-ranked Tigers.

Napavine led 28-0 after the first quarter and scored the game's first 35 points.

Andrez Zavala threw touchdown passes of 24 and 45 yards to Alexis Galarza for the Vikings, who finished the season 4-7 after stunning first-place Burbank to earn the playoff berth.

Zavala finished with 240 yards passing, 138 of those to Galarza.

Mabton's defense came up with four turnovers, as Zavala, Armando Morales and Giovanni Trujillo each had interceptions and Alfredo Gonzalez recovered a fumble.

Napavine (9-1) advances to a quarterfinal against 10th-ranked Toledo either Friday or Saturday. The Tigers defeated the Indians 41-7 in a Sept. 20 game.
