NACHES HEIGHTS — Selah's Shea Mattson and Ellensburg's Leah Holmgren both broke course records and Ellensburg swept the team titles at Saturday's Class 2A regional cross country meet at Apple Ridge Run.

Mattson and defending 2A state champion Eliason Kabasenche worked together in an effort to take down the 13-year-old course record of 14:54, but it was the Selah senior who powered away for the victory in 14:49 while Kabasenche followed in 15:05.

Holmgren repeated as regional champion and was pushed by sophomore teammate Kate Laurent as both dipped under the previous record of 17:59. Holmgren clocked 17:35 when Laurent seven seconds back.

Ellensburg's top-ranked girls were true to form, earning a 20-point victory over West Valley of Spokane, and Selah nabbed fourth place and a state berth with Nicole DeHerrera's third-place effort leading the way.

Ellensburg's boys had four runners in the top 14 and won by 14 points over Cheney. Selah will also have a double entry at state with the boys placing third.

The top four teams and first 28 individuals qualified for the state championships in Pasco next Saturday.

TOPPENISH 34, EAST VALLEY 32: At Grandview, Manuel Felan's 11-yard touchdown run with 4:06 left gave the Wildcats the lead and Ricardo Gonzalez's interception stopped EV's go-ahead bid in the final minute.

EV's Tyler Stone ran for 212 yards and his second touchdown rallied the Red Devils to a 32-28 lead in the fourth quarter.

Isaac Perez passed for 195 yards with two scores and ran for 58 yards to lead Toppenish, which led 28-13 in the third period.

Toppenish's opponent in the CWAC-GNL crossovers has yet to be determined.

OTHELLO 13, SELAH 10: At Grandview, Rollin Levon's touchdown run in the third quarter put the Vikings ahead 10-7, but the Huskies rallied with two field goals, including the 40-yard winner as time expired.

Selah's opponent in Week 10 hasn't been decided yet. No other details were available.

DAVIS 3, WEST VALLEY 2: At Davis, Alexis Olivas and Itzel Islas had a goal and assist apiece as the Pirates locked up fourth place in Saturday's league finale.

Davis (8-8) will host No. 5 seed West Valley (5-9) in a district play-in match on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

In other CBBN action Saturday, Sunnyside edged Eisenhower 2-1 and Eastmont clipped Moses Lake 4-3.

Eisenhower will play at Moses Lake in Tuesday's other district play-in game.
