ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Ellensburg finally got to play on its home field Saturday and the two-time defending Class 2A state champions made it worth the wait.

Behind stong pitching from Tyler Polacek and Brady Helgeson, and solid offensive days from Polacek and Jadon Bugni, Ellensburg (3-2) posted a pair of solid nonleague victories, first a 5-0 win over Steilacoom and then a 19-3 defeat of Highline.

Polacek allowed one hit in six innings in the opener, striking out five. Bugni and Helgeson both had two hits, and Hunter Gibson got things going with a two-run double in the first.

Helgeson struck out 10 in four innnings against Highline, while also going 3 for 3 with three runs and an RBI. Bugni had a double, triple and five RBI, Polacek had two hits, two runs and three RBI, Damon McLaughlin three hits, three runs and an RBI, and Riley Seed two hits, two runs and an RBI.
