Malachi Spurrier had another big receiving game for Eisenhower and on Friday, he also put his hands to good use on defense with an interception that he returned for a score to spark the Cadets’ nonleague victory.

Nahum Garent’s 1-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter provided the winning points for Ike (3-4).

Spurrier opened the scoring by returning his interception 55 yards for a TD in the opening quarter.

He then caught a 68-yard TD pass from Justice Dean in the third quarter to give Ike a 14-7 lead.

It was the senior’s 15 touchdown reception this season, which is tops in the state. He finished with nine receptions for 152 yards.

Hermiston’s Aidan Villarreal scored on a 7-yard run to tie the game in the fourth quarter.

Ike returns to CBBN play next Friday, hosting Eastmont.

Ellensburg 17

Othello 7

OTHELLO — Ellensburg’s offense had a solid second quarter and the Bulldogs’ defense was strong all night.

As a result, Ellensburg is back in the CWAC district championship game.

The Bulldogs scored 11 points in the second quarter, and their defense bent a little early but ended up allowing just one late third-quarter score to top Othello and claim the top spot in the North Division.

That sets up a rematch with Prosser, which defeated Toppenish to claim the South, on Nov. 2 at Grandview to cap the league’s tripleheader finals.

Ellensburg (3-0 North, 3-4 overall) stretched its lead to 17-0 with a third-quarter score — a 24-yard TD pass on fourth-and-goal — that was plenty for its stingy defense.

Othello (3-1, 4-3) could’ve been a little closer at halftime but the Huskies missed a pair of field goals.

No other details were reported.
