ASPEN, Colo. — A scary practice accident forced Yakima’s Joe Parsons to withdraw from the Snowmobile Freestyle event at Winter X Games Aspen 2020.
The second-most decorated Winter X Games athlete behind snowboarder Shaun White threw his sled forward when it continued to go nose up on a practice jump prior to Friday’s competition. Parsons landed hard in the snow behind the bouncing sled but was able to get up and walk away on his own power.
A year ago in his 12th X Games, Parsons barely missed tying White’s record of 18 medals with a fourth-place finish, despite landing backwards on his sled for a trick called “The Parsby.”
The 32-year-old won his last medals in 2017, when he took first in the Snowmobile Freestyle and third in the since eliminated Best Trick event for safety concerns.
Brandon Cormier’s best score of 88.00 edged Daniel Bodin (87.33) for the gold, while Willie Elam (84.00) claimed the bronze.
