DUPONT, Wash. — Cassie Kim may have missed a chance at a state high school championship but she claimed an even bigger prize this past weekend.

The Davis High senior shot a 3-under par 141 to win the 2019 Pacific Northwest Girls Junior PGA Championship at The Home Course.

Kim edged Baylee Hammericksen of Medford, Ore., by one shot. Kim opened with a 2-under 70 on Saturday and followed that with a 1-under 71 on Sunday.

With the victory, Kim qualified for the 44th Girls Junior PGA Championship, one of The PGA of America's premier junior events, July 9-12 at Keney Park Golf Course in Hartford, Conn.

Kim's younger brother John tied for 24th in the Boys Age 16-18 Division. He shot 77-76 for a 153 total.

Cassie Kim had qualified for the Class 4A state tournament last month but was unable to compete because she was taking International Baccalaureate testing.

HANFORD 11-15, YAKIMA 10-7: At Parker Faller Field, Jared Sires was 3 for 3 with a double, grand slam and six RBI in the opener for the Beetles, who rolled up 24 hits despite the two setbacks to open Central Washington League play.

JoJo Gonzalez was 3 for 4 with a double, home run, two RBI and three runs scored in the nightcap for Yakima, which plays at Hanford on Wednesday.

Brink records ace

Mel Brink recorded a hole-in-one Saturday on the eighth hole at Yakima Elks. Brink used an 8-iron on the 139-yard hole. It was witnessed by Chris Schlect, Mark Meyocks and Doug Hay.

Double eagle for Lane

Ed Lane recorded a double-eagle on the 18th hole at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla on Saturday. Lane, who has three aces to his credit, sank a 240-yard shot with a 3-wood on the par 5 hole. It was witnessed by Cindy Lane and Brandon Smith.
