HARTFORD, Conn. — Cassie Kim picked a nice time for her first hole-in-one — the 18th hole of her first round at the Girls Junior PGA Championships on Tuesday.

The Davis graduate shot 2-over 72 at Keney Park Golf Course, which is hosting 144 qualifiers for the first two rounds of the 72-hole event.

Kim aced the 146-yard 18th hole with a 6-iron to finish off a back nine of 1-under 34. She is tied for 60th with three leaders sharing the first-day lead with course-record rounds of 65.

Beetles beat CWL leader

Dylan Clampitt's walk-off RBI single capped a five-run seventh inning and lifted the Yakima Pepsi Beetles to a 6-5 win over the CWL-leading Kennewick Outlaws on Tuesday at Parker Faller Field.

The Outlaws won the nightcap 6-2 and will host the Beetles for two games on Wednesday.

Diego Sosa, Isaac Briones and Jared Sires all had two hits with a double in the opener, and John McDonald pitched a complete game and contributed a two-run double in the late rally.

Sires hit a solo home run in the second game for the Beetles, who moved to 8-6 in league and 14-22 overall.

Pak win streak at 12

SELAH — Hayden Groth's three-hitter powered the Yakima Valley Pepsi Pak to a 7-0 victory and a sweep over the Hanford Flames in a CWL doubleheader Tuesday night at Archer Stadium.

The Pak got a complete game from Austin Tolliver to win the opener 9-4. Yakima Valley improved to 9-3 in league and 26-8 overall and will take a 12-game win streak into the Brandy Pugh tournament, which starts Wednesday.

Carson Poulson had three RBI in the first game and Jack Van De Brake had a double, two runs and two RBI in the nightcap. Dylan Bishop had two RBI in each game.
