Morris' late goal gives US 1-1 exhibition draw vs Uruguay

SPOKANE, Wash. — Yakima Valley's women's soccer team started its league season in impressive fashion on the road against the defending NWAC East champs on Wednesday.

A pair of first-half goals held up for a 2-0 win at Spokane, the first road win over the Sasquatch in school history. Ciel McDonald opened the scoring in the 11th minute off a through ball from Corynn Vigil and McDonald added another from the top of the penalty box off an assist from Emmie Woodward.

Spokane found some offense late to finish with six shots — four on goal — compared to eight shots and six on goal for Yakima Valley (1-0 NWAC East, 5-2 overall). Goalkeeper Brynlee Ward posted four saves to preserve her team's fifth straight shutout.

Another key piece of the defense has been 2019 La Salle grad Maddie Britt, who was recognized as the NWAC women's soccer player of the week. YVC will play at North Idaho on Saturday.

YVC's Morton honored

Yakima Valley College's Jocalynn Morton has been named the NWAC East Region defensive player of the week for her performance at the Highline tournament this past weekend.

Morton, a freshman libero from Davis, had 53 digs, 4 aces, and passed 71 serve-receive balls with an average of 2.31 rating.



LA SALLE 3, TRI-CITIES PREP 0: At Tri-Cities Prep, Brooke Silvernail's 15 kills and Lillian Wixson's 29 assists led the Lightning to a 25-23, 25-21, 25-23 sweep. La Salle plays in the SunDome Festival on Friday.

Granger's Kaitlyn Roettger totaled nine kills, 17 digs and was a perfect 22 of 22 serving.
