TUKWILA — Goalkeeper Brynlee Ward made seven saves to lead Yakima Valley College’s women’s soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Rogue at the season-opening NWAC Friendlies on Thursday at Starfire Sports Complex.

Natalie Wright assisted on the first goal and scored the third for YVC, which led 2-0 at the break.

All 29 NWAC women’s teams are playing in the two-day event.

The Yaks will play Skagit Valley on Friday at 8 p.m. Skagit Valley defeated Lower Columbia 6-0 on Thursday.

First half: 1, YVC, Corynn Vigil (Natalie Wright), 11:00; 2, YVC, Tare Rillon, 30:00.

YHR pair at QBs

Yakima Herald-Republic Sports Editor Jerrel Swenning and sportswriter Scott Spruill will be guests of the Yakima Monday Morning Quarterback Club at its weekly luncheon next week.

The meeting will begin at 11:45 a.m. Monday at Jack-Sons, 48th Avenue and Tieton Drive. Lunch service will be available, and the public is invited.


Besel scores ace

SELAH — Jerry Besel recorded a hole-in-one on the eighth hole at Yakima Elks on Wednesday.

Besel used an 8-iron on the 125-yard hole. It was witnessed by Russ Arbuckle, Mick Panarell and Mike Soran.
