Yakima Valley College finally got back to its winning ways in a key NWAC East Region women’s soccer match Wednesday.
Natalie Wright scored two first-half goals, and Sessi Allot and Maddie Hoffman both had a goal and an assist in leading YVC to a 5-0 win, handing the third-ranked and East-leading Sasquatch its first region loss at the YVC soccer field.
The Yaks improved to 6-3-1 in the region and 9-3-1 overall and sit in fourth place with 19 points, one spot away from a playoff berth. Spokane fell to 7-1-2 and 9-3-3 and are now tied for first with North Idaho with 23 points. Walla Walla is third with 22 points.
YVC plays four more matches, all against teams it beat earlier this season.
Brynlee Ward made 12 saves and Sasquatch coach coach Jim Martinson was ejected in the 79th minute of an intense, physical game.
Spokane beat Yakima 1-0 earlier this season.

Yaks fall at Walla Walla
WALLA WALLA — Former Goldendale standout Ocean Bryan had 18 kills to lead fifth-ranked Walla Walla to a 25-9, 25-12, 27-25 sweep of Yakima Valley in an NWAC East Region volleyball match Wednesday. Walla Walla improved to 6-2 and 25-5.
Mikayla Price had eight kills and six digs, and Akon Aleu five kills for the Yaks (2-6, 9-20).
