SILVERDALE, Wash. — Ellensburg’s girls soccer team has no problem handling pressure situations this postseason.
In their third extra-time match in the last two weeks, the Bulldogs defeated Sequim in a shootout on Wednesday in the first round of the Class 2A state tournament at Silverdale Stadium.
Sequim started the season 1-7-1 but entered state having won seven straight with a district title.
Ellensburg defeated Ephrata in a shootout to open district and then ousted Cheney in overtime in last Saturday’s winner-to-state crossover.
The Bulldogs (14-4) advance to Saturday’s quarterfinals and will host Sehome (17-2), which defeated Hockinson 3-2 on Tuesday.
No other details on Wednesday’s match were available at press time.
CWAC league and district champion Selah (19-0), which edged Ellensburg 1-0 in the district final, is hosting Burlington-Edison (17-3-1) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
YVC season ends
Third-ranked Walla Walla closed out Yakima Valley’s season with a 3-0 NWAC East victory on Wednesday at Sherar Gym.
Goldendale grad Ocean Bryan had a match-high 12 kills for Walla Walla, which prevailed 25-11, 27-25, 25-14.
Ashley Uffelman put together 10 kills and five digs and teammate Mikayla Price had seven kills and 11 digs for YVC, which finished 5-11 in the East and 12-24 overall.
