PENDLETON, Ore. — The streak grew longer on Wednesday but it also came to an end.

Yakima Valley College’s second-ranked baseball team won its 10th straight game in dominant fashion, routing Blue Mountain 15-1 in the first game of their first NWAC East Region doubleheader of the season.

But the Timberwolves got revenge in the second game, rallying for a 7-5 victory for YVC’s first setback since March 17.

Starter Matt Driver pitched six strong innings in the opener, allowing one earned run and two walks while striking out seven to improve to 3-0.

Sophomore outfielder Johnny Sage was 4 for 4 with two doubles in the victory and never cooled off, going 6 for 7 for the day with three doubles, a home run, four runs scored and three RBI.

Tanner Parker scored four times in the opener and added an RBI double, and teammate Tyler Detloff hit a two-run triple.

Sage and Zach Inskeep both homered in the second game, helping the Yaks build leads of 4-2 and 5-4. But Blue Mountain pushed across three runs in the bottom of the sixth and two relievers combined to hold YVC scoreless the rest of the way.

Yakima Valley (1-1 East, 19-5 overall) will host Big Bend on Saturday.
