YAKIMA, Wash. —Central Washington announced the hiring of Redmond High School’s Alison Mitchell as the Wildcats’ new softball coach Tuesday afternoon.

The former coach at Skyline and Eastside Catholic has also been involved with the Washington Ladyhawks organization since 2006, and she became a head coach in 2009. She joined the Redmond staff in 2013 and took over as head coach in 2016 for a program that has placed in the top 10 in the state tournament for eight consecutive seasons.

Mitchell replaces Mike Larabee, who won four GNAC regular-season titles and three GNAC Coach of the Year awards in four seasons before joining the University of Maryland as an assistant coach in October. Central’s roster only included four seniors last season, although the Wildcats also lost a pair of unanimous first-team All-GNAC selections, junior third baseman Savannah Egbert and sophomore outfielder Katie Kastning.
