TOPEKA, Kan. — Now this is how to bounce back.

After being swept by Northwest Missouri State, Central Washington’s volleyball team fought its way to a five-set victory over 18th-ranked Drury at the Capital Plaza Invitational on Friday.

Lexi Schamaden and Ashley Kaufman combined for 26 kills and 29 digs as the No. 23 Wildcats defeated Drury 25-22, 25-17, 18-25, 23-25, 18-16.

Trailing 14-12 and 16-15 in the fifth set, Central scored the final three points of the match. West Valley grads Bridgette Webb and Julia Mellander had 11 and seven kills, respectively.

CWU dropped its first match to Northwest Missouri State 25-23, 27-25, 25-17.

Play continues Saturday with the Wildcats taking on Emporia State and fourth-ranked Washburn.

YVC blanks Chemeketa

SALEM, Ore. —Corynn Vigil scored twice, and Sophie Painter and Raisa Pleasants both added a goal and an assist as Yakima Valley College dominated Chemeketa, winning 6-0 in an NWAC women’s soccer match Friday.

YVC (4-1-0) was in control throughout, scoring three goals in each half and outshooting the Storm 24-3.

Vigil had a goal in each half, with Painter and Pleasants scoring the other two second-half goals. Ciel McDonald and Tare Rillion had first-half scores for the Yaks.

Eliza Christensen made three saves to earn the shutout.
