KENNEWICK — Henry Mercado threw three touchdown passes and Tuna Altahir rushed for three scores to lead Kamiakin to a 46-24 win over West Valley in nonleague football Thursday night at Lampson Stadium.

Hayden Morehouse’s short touchdown run, which was set up by a fumble recovery inside Kamiakin’s 20, gave the Rams a 7-6 lead in the first quarter.

Quarterback Issac Madrigal scored on a 12-yard run in the third period, and teammate Jace Taylor-Reed scooped up a fumble and ran 60 yards for a score in the final period. Devin Duthie kicked a field goal and added three PATs for West Valley.

The Rams will host Prosser for their home opener next Friday.

Wildcats rally for 2-1 win

FRESNO, Calif. — Sydney Lowe’s goal with five minutes left in regulation lifted Central Washington to a 2-1 victory over Fresno Pacific in the Wildcats’ season opener Thursday night at Ramirez Field.

The host Sunbirds took a quick lead just over three minutes in and held it until the second half when CWU got the equalizer from Peyton Vogel.

Lowe, a sophomore, nailed the winner into the lower left corner passed a diving FPU keeper.

CWU plays at Cal State San Marcos on Saturday.

Yakima Schools Superintendent Trevor Greene, Athletic Director Clint Endicott and Communications Director Kirsten Fitterer will be guests of the Yakima Monday Morning Quarterback Club at its weekly luncheon Monday.

The meeting will begin at 11:45 a.m. at Jacksons, 48th Avenue and Tieton Drive. Lunch service will be available, and the public is invited.
