Frequently Asked Questions

General questions

  • I like the old site. Why are you changing it?
Our mission is to bring you the news as quickly and as accurately as possible. To do that, we occasionally rethink how the website is organized to make sure it works properly on your computer, phone and tablet. We are confident that this new mobile website will be faster and better organized so you can find things more easily.

  • Why do I see "manage my account" or "manage my list"?
Certain parts of the new website have expanded features built in that require an account. Email newsletters, favoriting stories, submitting events and other items might ask for a username and a password. Please make an account to take full advantage of our offerings. If you have previously signed up for an email newsletter, use the same email address when signing up and your accounts will automatically be merged. Once inside, you can subscribe to lists for business news, entertainment, sports and more.

  • Why do I have to scroll so much?
We want to make sure that you are able to easily find the news and information you are looking for. To do this, we have a lot of variety to choose from on the site, particularly on the homepage. We have optimized the website so it will load very quickly, despite the need to scroll or swipe.

  • I miss seeing the front page of the paper since I don’t get print. Where is that?
To make the website load faster, we have removed several elements – including the front-page image.

  • Are you going to start charging for the website?
Many newspapers now charge for access to the kind of high-quality local stories, photos and video that we offer. We do not currently have a date for moving to a subscription-based website, but it is under consideration.

  • Why do you use Facebook for commenting?
We require that readers submit comments using real names rather write things anonymously or using pseudonyms. Of the different commenting platforms we’ve looked at, Facebook has the same requirement while providing the best functionality. It is free to use and does not require commenters to have additional plug-ins or software.

  • Do you have an app?
For the time being, we have discontinued support of our news app and will be coming out with a new one in the near future. Our new mobile website loads much faster on tablets and smartphones, giving readers fast access to content we think you will like.

  • How do I purchase photos?
Each photo that is for sale has a button that says “buy this photo.” The system will process your payment and send you the photo in about two weeks. You can also get the photo on shirts, mugs, posters and more.

  • How can I put an event into your paper and website?
It’s easy! Please click here to post your event. If you would like to also place an ad for your event, give us a call at 509-452-7355 and we will help you promote it.

  • I can’t find an article from last year. Where would that be?
At the top of every page is a search box. By using keywords and the search box you can find any article posted in the past few years.

  • You moved the weather. Where is it now?
We have a new and improved weather page. When you place your mouse on the temperature icon on the right side of the black navigation bar at the top of the page, it will give you the forecast. For an expanded forecast, click on the icon and it will take you to the weather page. Click here to see the new weather page.

  • How do I get the news in my email?

  • How do I stop getting these emails?
At the bottom of every email is a link to unsubscribe. Click on that and you will automatically be unsubscribed.
