Stop & Go Drive Inn is one of Yakima’s most historic restaurants; it’s been at 2820 Fruitvale Blvd. since 1948. It’s known for its burgers and shakes.

Anthony and Josie Wade bought the business from his parents in 2014. Wade’s parents bought the place from the previous owners in 1994.

Stop & Go has an inviting setting with picnic tables in a grassy area as well as a quick pickup window. It is family- and pet-friendly. Dogs who come with their owners get free ice cream cups.

Here, Anthony Wade shares some of his favorite things about Stop & Go.

What is your hometown? Yakima.

What is your favorite dish? The Texas Cheese Bacon Burger filled with mayo, mustard, relish, pickles, onion, lettuce and tomato.

What is your favorite restaurant in Yakima? Cowiche Canyon.

If you weren’t working here, what job would you do? My family is involved with farming, so I might do that or work on a golf course.

What do you do in your spare time? I enjoy all sports. I golf in the summer and snowmobile in the winter. Most of my time is spent at work or with family.

What was your most unusual request? Someone wanted us to stand on their hamburger to smash it up.

What is your best-kept secret? Our ice cream and shakes are really good. Also our tartar sauce and fry sauce are house-made.

What is your most popular offering? The Texas Cheeseburger.

Who are your most devoted fans? The workers on Fruitvale keep the place going during the slower months in the winter.

Why would you recommend your cooking? Everything is fresh and made to order.
