To the editor — The president of the United States should be the highest example of integrity, compassion and wisdom. He is the role model for not only those in the United States but all around the world, for he represents the greatest country in the world. When he acts without integrity, compassion and wisdom, he gives permission for others to do the same.

How do we know that this is the outcome? We have only to look and listen to become aware of the travesties and inhumane actions that are taking place around the world today. Am I saying that our president is responsible for all of it? No, but when the leader of a great nation, one which has held that honor through generations, acts in the manner that this president does, he pushes aside the values of restraint and respect, giving permission to those who now feel a freedom to act from their lower brain stem because the president of the United States has shown the way.

My only hope is that his behavior will ignite us to get back on track to become a nation that upholds integrity, fairness, compassion and wisdom.
