To the editor — We are fortunate that Martha Rice is wishing to continue her long service of over 20 years on the Yakima School District Board of Directors. About half of her years have been as board president, where her leadership was constantly on display, especially at times when difficult decisions had to be made. In working with Martha on the board for 13 years, I cannot think of a single instance when she ever deviated from a “best interests of students and their teachers” standard when advocating and deciding on an issue.
Martha is on the upcoming ballot for another four-year term. She is a true role model: A public servant who serves in a tough and time-consuming job for a very long period of time due to the principles under which she lives her life, with no compensation and little public recognition for her hard work and what it has meant to our children and community.
Please join me in supporting Martha for another term!
