Trump Impeachment

FILE — House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., followed by Rep. Mike Quigley, D-Ill., walks out to talk to reporters on Capitol Hill in Washington, Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019, about the House impeachment inquiry.

To the editor — Most of us are familiar with that drawing or optical illusion of the old lady and the beautiful damsel. You have to look at it closely to see both images embedded in the same drawing. Seems like this is exactly what is going on in America right now concerning the impeachment process. Republicans see one image and Democrats see another, but both portraits are there.

I grew up in an era when impeachment was viewed as catastrophic for our democracy. But now it is more tolerable and common. And in the tumultuous Trump era, impeachment is almost a “yawn” event.

So let’s get to the bottom of this. The House of Representatives will be the prosecutor. Prosecutors present very convincing evidence that seems incontrovertible. But when the defense (the Republican Senate) presents its case, often things can change dramatically. So, impeach Trump! That’s the only way the Republican Senate can have its day in court. Let them stand up there in the open light of day and make their case! Then we will see which image is most prominent.
