To the editor — Safe Yakima Valley has had an amazing 2019! It has mentored 25 young women in careers in law and justice, sponsored four drug take-back boxes, 1,500 take-back prescription envelopes, five community cleanups resulting in 325 tons of trash collected, and a law and justice forum.
It also gave away 323 gun lock boxes along with 41 trigger locks and 600 cable locks. Not only that, but its National Night Out kickoff and Farewell to Drugs Party were huge successes.
Thank you to our 32 volunteers and 14 vendors. A special thanks to our sponsors, Sheriff Bob Udell and Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney Joe Brusic for helping prepare a community dinner for 700 people.
