To the editor — Recently, some friends and I were discussing the state of American culture. We discussed homelessness, sex trafficking, addiction, illegals storming our borders, perverted and self-destructive behaviors, abortion, murder and mayhem, fake news, and the impotence at most levels of our government in dealing with all of this.

The elitists in our government and educational institutions believe that the answer lies in more laws and more education to control these out-of-control behaviors. However, we have tried these and found them wanting.

We need to look at what has worked, the adherence to Judeo-Christian norms even if imperfectly followed. Our founding fathers based our Constitution and Bill of Rights on Biblical principles, and it worked.

Teddy Roosevelt, our 26th president stated: “Every thinking man, when he thinks, realizes that the teachings of the Bible are so interwoven and intertwined with our whole civic and social life that it would be literally, I do not mean figuratively, but literally impossible for us to figure what the loss would be if these teaching were removed.”

Sadly, they are being removed and we are experiencing the loss of a sane society.
