Virginia Lee Stewart

Keith & Keith Funeral Home

Our grandmother, great grandmother, and sister Virginia joined her beloved husband in heaven February 8, 2017. Virginia Lee Stewart was born to Rolf & Mary Hayenga in Yakima, WA on July 1, 1931.

Virginia graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1949. She continued her education with nurse training before moving to Oregon, where she finished up her training. She married John Stewart on October 18, 1952. They raised their 3 children. She worked as a nurse in Oregon, meeting and building lifelong friendships with coworkers. They moved back to Yakima in 1985. Grandma enjoyed watching her 3 grandchildren grow, loved spending time with them and later with her great grandchildren. She enjoyed needle work, playing bingo, and always loved a good game of pinochle. She had a passion for baseball and loved cats. She made many memories with the ones she loved and will be missed dearly.

Virginia is survived by her grandchildren Jennifer Leslie of Yakima, Kimberly Knox of Moorhead, MN, and Jonathan Hansen of Roseburg, OR, siblings, Jerome (Zura) Hayenga of Maryland, Patricia Archambeau of Yakima, and Theresa Lafferty of Yakima and children Janet (Audie) Gill of Yakima and Thomas Stewart of West Linn, OR and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Stewart, parents Rolf and Mary Hayenga, sister Kathleen Hayenga, and son James Stewart.
