Brookside Funeral Home & Crematory

Ted was born in Moxee, WA to Adelard and Zelia Roy. He was the baby of the family, following six older siblings. His family was a part of the French Community that emigrated from Quebec, Canada, through Minnesota, eventually settling in the Moxee area as farmers. Ted attended Holy Rosary Grade School and Marquette High School. At Marquette he excelled in sports, playing football, baseball and one day as a heavy weight boxer. Ted said he was in the ring with an “octopus.” While at Marquette it was a Jesuit priest who suggested he would make a good attorney. He continued his education at St. Martin’s College, and graduated from Cal-Poly San Luis Obispo. He continued onto law school at Gonzaga University and received his Juris Doctorate in 1957. In law school he worked at the Spokane County Law Library. He paid his way through law school as a valet attendant at the Ridpath Hotel. He met the love of his life, Patti, in the hallway of Gonzaga University. He was a lifetime ZAG fan! He began his legal career as a clerk for the Washington State Supreme Court. He married Patti after a short 6-month courtship. They eventually ended up in the Yakima Valley where he practiced law into his 70’s. They had five children. He was former President of the Yakima Exchange Club, Yakima County Bar Association, and Carroll High School Board and an active member of the YMCA where he enjoyed many years of playing handball. Ted and Patti enjoyed numerous adventures and laughs traveling with his brother Les and sister-in-law Emma.

His friends, family, faith and work were important to him. Ted made friends easily and many considered him the best friend they ever knew. He had a quick wit and knew how to entertain a room full of people.

Ted is survived by his wife, Patti of 61 years, his children: Ann and Rick Washut, Ted and Lynda Roy, Kevin and Nancy Roy, Kathleen and Greg Paganelli, and Julie and Peter Larsen. He had twelve grandchildren: Kyle, Drew, Mollie, Joe, Kellie, Katie, Danny, Teddy, William, Patricia, Mick and Ellie and one great grandchild, Liam, and numerous nieces and nephews from his siblings and Patti’s siblings, whom he enjoyed a loving relationship. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Edmond, William, Lester, and sisters Cecilia Derr, Theresa Oldfield, Dee Morford.

Visitation will be on Saturday, April 20, 2019 from 3:00-5:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home (500 W. Prospect, Moxee, WA).
