Brookside Funeral Home & Crematory

Simon Olivas, Sr. passed away September 4, 2019 peacefully at his home. He was born April 19, 1936 in Manderson, Wyoming to Leonardo Olivas and Manuela Enrigues. He was the third of four siblings. At the age of 12, his family left Wyoming to settle in Toppenish, WA before moving to Moxee, WA. He attended Moxee High School until he had to go to work.

Simon was a quiet, dedicated, and hardworking man. He started a long career path with the B.T. Loftus Ranch that lasted 69 years starting at the age of 14. He moved up the ranks of being a field hand to irrigator to the foreman at the ranch. He did take a brief break from the hop fields to work for Pacific Northern Railroad, eventually returning to work for the B.T. Loftus Ranch. He had a strong work ethic until the day he passed away. His work was a huge part of his life and he made many friends through work.

Simon loved the farm life, hunting pheasants, being outdoors, and enjoying the freedom it provided. He also enjoyed baseball, bar-b-ques, and dancing. Simon was also well known for wearing his cowboy hat everywhere he went.

On February 9, 1958 Simon married Carlene Bisconer. During that marriage they had three children together, Cindy Lou Olivas, Simon Olivas, Jr., and Gary Leon Olivas. Eventually they got divorced, which lead to Simon and Dolores Faye Harvey starting a life together. They were married on August 9, 1969 and remained married for 36 years until Dolores passed away. Simon gained a stepdaughter, Cynthia Dianne Magruder, and later on came the birth of Shane Olivas.

Simon is survived by his children, six grandchildren, K.C. Searl, Tyler Olivas, Chelsea Olivas, Gabriel Lepe, Adrian Lepe, and Nadia Tosch, and five great-grandchildren. Simon is preceded in death by his wife Dolores Olivas, two brothers, John Olivas, and Cruz Olivas, and one sister, Delfina Sanchez.
