Richard Valdez passed away in Yakima peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, January 13, 2020. He was born on December 26, 1959 in Hardin, Montana to Isadoro Valdez and Maria A. Rivas. The family moved to Toppenish, WA shortly after he was born and he attended Toppenish schools. Richard moved to Yakima after school and he began working in the agriculture business; he was always known for his work ethic.
Richard’s passions were listening to Tejano music, BBQing with family, playing football and basketball, and playing the slots at Legends Casino, which anyone who knew him knows how lucky he was at winning jackpots. He loved and was loved by his family and will always be missed but never forgotten.
Richard is survived by his brothers, Joe, Albert and Johnny Valdez, all of Yakima; sisters, Rosalinda Ramirez of Dallas, TX, Gloria Jimenez of Yakima, Marta Soto of Dallas, TX, Alice Morfin of Zillah, WA, and Maggie Saldana of Yakima; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Louis Valdez.
Viewing will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020 from 3 PM to 7 PM at Shaw & Sons Funeral Home, 201 N. 2nd St., Yakima, WA 98901. Rosary will be held at 5:00 PM. Memories may be shared at www.shawandsons.com.
