Shaw & Sons Funeral Home
Reuben E. Lair, Sr. passed away on October 11, 2019 at Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital. Reuben was born in Alameda, CA on September 9, 1946 to Joe I. Lair and Jean (Miller) Lair. He was the 2nd of 11 children.
He grew up near Modesto, CA and was married to Betty Siler in 1962. They had three children. Reuben married Janice on September 22, 1969. Together they blended his three and her two children. One more son was added to the family.
Reuben was a machinist for over 48 years. He bought Paxton Sales in 1996, and he ran the shop while Jan ran the office. The Yakima County Sheriff’s Posse was his pride and joy. He was a lifetime member, and was president for many years.
Reuben’s family was so important to him. He loved everyone so much, and they loved him in return. Family birthday parties at Rimrock were his favorite times. There were so many children that we decided to have one huge party. Bigfoot hunting, fishing, and water sports for five days. There was also a big gift exchange for the children; so much fun.
Reuben was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Jean Lair, brothers, Joe, Ken, George, and Robert Lair, his sisters, Carol Stroud and Sheryl Parmley, his in laws, Philip and Marjorie Fluaitt, brother in law, Brian Fluaitt, sister in law, Joan Fluaitt, son in law, Bill Sadler, granddaughter, Janice Sadler, and son, Robert I. Lair.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janice Lair of Yakima, daughters, Cathy Sadler and Brenda Jennings, sons, Robert Tormaschy (Konnie), Reuben, Jr., and Tommy Lair (Natasha) all of Yakima, and sisters, Debbie Bray, Deniece Hoffman (Tom), Judy Hess (Ron), and Delores Yates (Doug). Also surviving are 31 grandchildren and almost 20 great-grandchildren, and special friends, Tom and Donna Jackson and their family of Tacoma.
Reuben was a kind, silly, loving man. He chose not to have any services. He asked all to remember him with a smile. Shaw and Sons Funeral Home is caring for the family. Memories may be shared at www.shawandsons.com.
