Lauretta Vaun Schmidt Corbin was born on August 13, 1921 in Akron, CO to Conrad and Hazel Ellen Schmidt and passed away on July 30, 2019 at Westley Homes in Auburn, WA at the age of 97.
Lauretta lived in Akron, CO until she and Leon G. Corbin were married on September 24, 1938, when they moved to the Yakima Valley in the state of Washington. After her husband retired from the post office in Grandview, WA they moved to Auburn, WA in October 1976 to be close to their daughters and grandchildren. Leon passed away September 11, 2000, just days short of their 62nd wedding anniversary.
Lauretta stayed active with her love of sewing both for herself as well as for family and friends. Other hobbies she mastered were needlepoint, painting, ceramics, and quilting. She continued quilting into her mid 90’s.
The highlights of her life were their 50th wedding anniversary in 1988 and her 90th birthday party at Westley Home where she lived for 12 years.
Lauretta was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Eunice, brothers John, Floyd, Eldon, Ora Dean, Jim, and Dale.
She is survived by her son Everett of Texas, 2 daughters, Charlene (Tālis) Jaundālderis of Seattle and Lucille (Tom) Hellmann of Auburn, 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Her strength, sense of humor, positive outlook, joy in helping others and her generous and caring spirit will be greatly missed.
Private graveside services will be held at Evergreen-Washelli Memorial Park at a later date.
