Elizabeth Carter, 78, of Yakima, died December 8, 2016 in Yakima. She was born December 16, 1937 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to Alex and Eldora Rogers, who then moved to Yakima. Elizabeth spent the duration of her life living in the Yakima area. She met her husband, Harold in 1953; they later married and had seven children: Harold S. Carter, Charles R. Carter, Sonya Y. Lott, Isadore N. Carter, Pamela Carter, Alex C. Modest, and Elizabeth S. Martin all of Yakima. She worked for the Yakima School District for many years. She was a very loving, caring woman who opened her doors to many and those in need. She was a dedicated Christian, a member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church for over sixty years; she sang in the church choir and was on the deaconess board. She enjoyed sewing, coloring, crocheting, fishing and reading.
She is survived by her husband Harold Carter of 60 years; seven children; sister: Dorothy Watkins of Seattle; her best friends Betty Lankford and Olivia Alvarado, 23 Grandchildren, 22 Great-grandchildren 4 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Alex and Eldora Rogers; brother: Frank Rogers; and a sister: Yvonne Buggs.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, 1302 s. 8th St., Yakima. Following the service interment will be in Tahoma Cemetery, Yakima.
