David H. Hendrix


Yakima native Dave Hendrix passed away on Thanksgiving day. Dave was a graduate of Davis High School, class of 1970. Dave attended Scripps Institute of Oceanography in La Jolla, CA in 1969 and went on to attend Colorado School of Mines, majoring in engineering 1970-73, and Norwich Military University Northfield VT, 1973-75, obtaining BA degrees in History and Political Science. Dave also attended Montpelier College in Montpelier, VT earning an AS in Criminal Justice before beginning his 33 year law enforcement career.

Dave began as a deputy and later as a detective with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Police Academy Lacey, WA 1977. Dave later joined the FBI and attended the Special Agents Academy in Quantico, VA in 1984. Dave had many assignments while with the Bureau and was assigned to positions throughout the United States including Boulder, CO and Los Angeles, CA, and ended his career in his hometown of Yakima as a Resident Agent.

Dave’s FBI career was highly regarded as his performance in development and implementing the Bureau’s asset forfeiture program was exceptionally successful. Seizures from drug trafficking, fraud and other white collar crimes often approached $100 million dollars a year for his unit.

Dave was also involved in working cases internationally and traveled frequently for work as well as providing instruction for other governmental agencies related to fraud and asset forfeiture.

He regularly received commendations from the FBI for his work in fugitive apprehension, asset forfeiture and was also assigned to the Green River Serial Murder Task Force.

Dave had many hobbies including: stamp collecting, going for walks, traveling and spending time with friends. Dave always had many fond memories of and held much respect for the law enforcement he worked with at the FBI, Yakima Police Department, Yakima Sheriff’s Office, Yakama Tribal Police and many other law enforcement agencies throughout the state and country.

Dave was preceded in death by his mother June Hendrix, father Prince Hendrix and brothers Lieutenant John Hendrix and William “Will” Hendrix. He is survived by his sister Anna Mae Grant (Yakima), Patrick Clark (Yakima), many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog “Luna.”
