Dan A. Garcia

Shaw & Sons Funeral Home

On January 16, 2020 while attending an OSHA training at the UBC International Training Center in Las Vegas, Daniel (Dan) Arredondo Garcia laid his tool belt down for the last time for he heard the voice of God calling his name.

Daniel or Dan as he was so affectionately called was born June 28, 1966 in Willows, California to Rafael Garcia Sr. and Dolores Arredondo. Dan’s father and mother and siblings would eventually move to the Pacific Northwest living in Burlington and then would permanently settle in the Yakima area. Yakima would become the permanent home for Dan, his mother and his 9 siblings.

Dan attended AC Davis High School before going to Curlew Job Corps at age 16. Dan discovered that he would develop a love for carpentry. He, over the years, honed his carpentry skills as a Brother in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. In 2002 Dan started teaching at YV-Tech Skills Center where he passed along his talent to many young students. Not only did he touch the lives and mentor many students but he became a true friend to many of his coworkers. The impact Dan made on the Yakima community through his mentorship left an indelible mark.

Dan’s title was NWCI Instructor and he was a member of Carpenters LU 59. Dan’s Brothers saluted him by saying, “Dan Garcia’s dedication to our training programs, to our members, and to our communities was unmatched. Dan was a mentor to many and has been instrumental in bringing the best of what we are to the students who he trained at the Yakima Valley Technical Skills Center.”

Dan’s hobbies were travelling, cooking, hiking and reading his Bible. Above all, Dan loved spending quality time with his children and extended family. Dan or Danny, as he was lovingly called by his family, loved his children beyond measure. They were the highlight of his life.

Dan is survived by his four children, Isaac Daniel Garcia (Elida Leonard), Danielle Delores Garcia, Daniel Michael Garcia and Gabriel Sebastian Garcia. Dan is also survived by his longtime partner Lydia Gutierrez and her three sons, Matthew, Javier and Xaime. He is also survived by his four sisters, Micaela (Spencer) Wimberly, Raquel (Frank) Rose, Sara (Martin) Causor and Tavi (Jack) Galland. Dan is also survived by four brothers, Rafael Garcia II, Joel (Annie) Garcia, Josue (Letty) Garcia and Adan (Mary) Garcia.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents Rafael Garcia Sr. and Dolores Arredondo, his sister Cecilia Ramirez, two nephews, Adan Garcia II and Rafael Garcia III, and a niece, America Riojas.

Viewing will be held Friday January 24, 2020 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Shaw & Sons Funeral Home in Yakima.
