YAKIMA, Wash. – A 16-year-old boy shot to death Sunday died of a gunshot wound to the chest, said Yakima County Coroner Jim Curtice.

David Martinez was walking with four other youths to a residence on Sliger Road near S. 18th Street in Yakima just before 2 a.m. when his group was confronted by two armed men, according to a news release from police.

The men pointed guns at the group and a fight erupted. Martinez was shot several times and died at the scene, the release said.

An autopsy was performed Monday, April 22.

One of the men, 19, was also shot in the clash and taken in critical condition to a local hospital and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, the release said.

There were no other injuries in the incident and police are still investigating, the release said.

The other suspect remains at large and police seek help from the public.

This was the ninth in Yakima County and the fourth in the city of Yakima this year.
