YAKIMA, Wash. — Two events will honor local veterans on Sept. 11, the 17th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States.
Sunnyside Assisted Living, 907 Ida Bell Road in Sunnyside, will honor its residents who are veterans by raising a new flag at 11 a.m.
Later, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 379 will have a remembrance service that starts at 5 p.m. at the post, 118 S. Fifth Ave. in Yakima. It will include an invocation, rifle salute and conclude with taps.
Following the service, the VFW will present keys to the selected recipient of a wheelchair-equipped transport van donated by the family of Sandra L. Rotter of Mattawa.
