A 20-year-old man accused of shooting and killing his father made a preliminary appearance Monday in Yakima County Superior Court.
On Saturday about 10 a.m., a man called 911 and reported he’d just been shot by his son outside Toppenish on the Yakama reservation, according to a probable cause affidavit by Yakima County Sheriff’s deputies.
Yakama Tribal Police found the man dead in his vehicle northwest of Toppenish. His vehicle was in a dirt field near the intersection of Branch and McKinley roads, the affidavit said.
Deputies said the shooting occurred in the 2500 block of Branch Road, where nine spent shells were found in a gravel driveway. Tire marks indicated that a vehicle had sped away, the affidavit said.
Tribal police found the suspect walking in the 2900 block of Branch Road and handed him over to deputies.
