Yakima’s Downtown Summer Nights concert series is kicking off on Thursday along North Front Street with a promise of family-friendly fun for all.
The 10-show series will run each Thursday from June 13 through Aug. 22, with the exception of July 4, when there will be no show. Each show will take place downtown on North Front Street between Yakima Avenue and Staff Sgt. Pendleton Way, just outside of the North Town Coffee House.
Each event will feature two bands, with performances starting at 6 p.m. and ending around 9 p.m., and a variety of local vendors selling food, art and merchandise. A kids area will also be available, along with misting tents during warmer nights.
Those 21 years of age and older will be able to visit a beer garden featuring Yakima Valley craft beverages.
Thursday’s performances will showcase Rafael Tranquilino, a blues guitarist from Seattle, and the Olson Band, a country music sensation that won a national songwriting contest in 2013 and was introduced at the Grand Ole Opry.
The shows will require the closing of North Front Street between Staff Sgt. Pendleton Way and Yakima Avenue, city spokesman John Fannin said in a news release.
Information about the musical performance schedule and how vendors can sign up for booth space is available at the Downtown Summer Nights website at www.downtownsummernights.com.
