YAKIMA, Wash. — The Yakima school board will move its Friday morning board meetings to Monday afternoons starting in late April.
The 3:30 p.m. sessions will be piloted through the end of the school year to see if community and staff participation improves with the change.
“We want to be more accessible to district staff, teachers, administrators,” board President Raymond Navarro said Friday. “We want to provide a time where people in our community can get involved with the board as well. Maybe they’re not wanting to run for a board position because with some a.m. meetings, they’re not able to take time off from work.”
If participation does not improve, the board may consider adjusting again with the new academic year.
The first Monday session will take place at 3:30 p.m. April 29, giving the district time to inform teachers and staff of the change.
