East Valley High School is postponing its first day of school by a day because of campus construction.

School will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 4, with students receiving their schedules at Earl Barden Stadium at 7:50 a.m. before meeting with advisory teachers and receiving a campus tour, according to a school announcement.

All other East Valley schools will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 3, as scheduled.

Construction on the high school campus comes after voters approved a $42 million expansion and renovation project in November 2015. A renovated cafeteria and more than 20 new classrooms in a new two-story wing of the school will be ready next week.

A renovated gym and locker rooms should be ready for use by the end of September, while new commons, a state-of-the-art auditorium, main office and entrance, counseling center and library are due for completion ahead of the 2020-21 school year.

Maps showing designated student pathways amid construction and classroom numbers will be posted on the school website, eastvalleyhigh.evsd90.org, later this week.
