A third person has been arrested in connection with a 2018 shooting over a stolen vehicle.
Yakima police booked an 18-year-old Yakima man into the Yakima County jail Tuesday on suspicion of first-degree assault and possessing a stolen motor vehicle in connection with the April 30, 2018, incident in the 1800 block of Dalton Lane.
A Yakima man whose 1995 Honda Civic was stolen found it on Dalton Lane near South 18th Street early on April 30. After ramming it with his other vehicle to keep it from being driven away, the car’s owner confronted the suspect, according to a police probable-cause affidavit.
A man later identified as Tacoda Javier Rojas, 23, came over and threatened to shoot the Honda’s owner if he didn’t release the suspect, the affidavit said. At that point, the suspect yelled to Rojas and told him to shoot the other man, the affidavit said, and Rojas fired, striking the car’s owner in the stomach.
Rojas was arrested in March, and is charged with first-degree assault, according to court documents.
Police arrested Jared Adam Brooks, 24, shortly after the incident, and he is awaiting trial on charges of first-degree assault and stolen vehicle possession.
Yakima County Superior Court Judge Douglas Federspiel set the third suspect’s bail at $75,000 during a preliminary hearing Wednesday.
