A 19-year-old man possibly facing vehicular homicide charges in connection with a fatal crash a year ago made a preliminary appearance Monday in Yakima County Superior Court.
Jose Luis Argueta-Sosa has been accused of running a stop sign north of Sunnyside and crashing into another car, killing Euriel Garibay, 15, according to a probable cause affidavit by sheriff’s deputies.
On Sept. 13, 2018, Argueta-Sosa was driving his 2006 Mitsubishi Galant north on Scoon Road when he ran the stop sign and crashed into a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse that was traveling east on Independence Road, the affidavit said.
The driver of the Eclipse had the right-of-way, the affidavit said.
A witness told deputies Argueta-Sosa was driving fast and swerving when he blew through the stop sign, the affidavit said.
There was no evidence of alcohol or drugs being involved in the crash, Yakima County Prosecutor Joe Brusic said.
Charges may have been stalled by a delay in receiving toxicology test results from the state crime lab, Brusic said.
Argueta-Sosa is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 23, Brusic said.
