YAKIMA, Wash. — Yakima County prosecutors have charged a Sunnyside man with vehicular homicide in connection with a fatal crash Aug. 31.

Jaime Fernandez-Inga, 39, was also charged Thursday afternoon with having no valid driver’s license and hit-and-run in Yakima County Superior Court.

Fernandez-Inga was driving a Ford Mustang north on Maple Grove Road around 5:30 a.m. that day when he ran the stop sign at the intersection with Independence Road, colliding with a Honda Civic, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

The Civic’s driver, 43-year-old Uriel Badillo-Guzman of Union Gap, died shortly afterward at Astria Sunnyside Hospital, the affidavit said. An autopsy found that Badillo-Guzman died from blunt-force trauma to his chest, Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins said.

Fernandez-Inga ran from the scene, deputies said, and was arrested later at a house near Sunnyside.

He is being held in lieu of $200,000 bail in the Yakima County jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 18.
