Authorities are continuing their investigation into the deaths of two people whose burned bodies were found Tuesday afternoon near a Moxee-area hop yard.

Yakima County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Casey Schilperoort said the bodies were those of a man and woman.

Yakima County Coroner Jim Curtice said he is scheduling autopsies and expects the examinations to be done this weekend. The bodies remain unidentified.

Yakima County sheriff’s deputies were called to a hill next to a hop yard in the 5600 block of Desmarais Road 6 miles east of Moxee around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday after someone found the bodies, which had been burned, according to the sheriff’s office.

The case is considered a homicide investigation, Schilperoort said, making them the first two homicides of the year in Yakima County. He did not release any additional details.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 509-575-2500 or Yakima County Crime Stoppers at 800-248-9980. Tips can also be submitted online at http://www.crimestoppersyakco.org.
