A Selah man was arrested Tuesday after Yakima police say he tried to force a woman into a stolen car and led officers on a high-speed chase around midday.

Yakima police were called to the 1300 block of Swan Avenue at 12:35 p.m. for a report of a man trying to force a woman into his car, city spokesman Randy Beehler said. Officers located the vehicle but had to break off a high-speed chase when the suspect began driving in oncoming traffic on Fruitvale Boulevard, Beehler said.

The suspect’s car, which had been reported stolen, was found in a mobile home park off Castlevale Road, and he was arrested near North 28th Avenue following a short foot chase, Beehler said.

Officers found a firearm inside a backpack the man had, Beehler said. Police booked the man into jail on suspicion of unlawful firearms possession, having a stolen motor vehicle and eluding police.
