A 19-year-old Yakima man accused of raping a 12-year-old girl made a preliminary appearance Friday in Yakima County Superior Court.
He possibly faces a charge of second-degree child rape.
According to a probable cause affidavit by Yakima police, the man injured the girl while forcibly touching her sexually.
Police learned of the incident on July 30, when they were called to Virginia Mason Memorial hospital. The girl wasn’t forthcoming with police at that time, the affidavit said.
After further investigation, police interviewed the girl again on Aug. 7. She told police that she had been communicating with the man the past four months on Snapchat and that he picked her up near 16th Avenue and Tieton Drive when she ran away on July 30, the affidavit said.
She told police the man drove to an area, parked his car and began making unwelcomed advances, the affidavit said.
