HARRAH, Wash. — A homeowner in the Harrah area held a man at gunpoint he said was tearing down one of his fences Thursday night, according to Yakima County sheriff’s officials.

The Branch Road resident said someone had broken down his fence and was in his backyard around 9 p.m., said Casey Schilperoort, sheriff’s spokesman. When deputies arrived, they found the homeowner holding a masked man at gunpoint in the yard.

Deputies unmasked the man and learned he was a 32-year-old White Swan resident and a citizen of the Yakama Nation, Schilperoort said. Deputies turned the suspect over to tribal police, Schilperoort said.

The homeowner’s use of a firearm in the situation is considered justified, Schilperoort said.
