A man and woman whose bodies were found partially burned near a Moxee area hop yard died from internal trauma, Yakima County Coroner Jim Curtice announced Wednesday.

The deaths of Alyson Harris, 32, and Miguel Martinez-Vasquez, 24, are classified as homicides, Curtice said. He has not released the exact manner of death at the request of Yakima County sheriff’s detectives, who are investigating the case.

The bodies were found burned by a hop yard in the 5600 block of Desmarais Road, about 6 miles east of Moxee, on the afternoon of Jan. 7. They were subsequently identified based on tattoos, Curtice announced previously.

Yakima police said the pair, who were last seen alive in the North First Street area, were reported missing Dec. 21. Their deaths are the first two homicides of 2020 for Yakima County.

At the time of his death, Martinez-Vasquez was on pretrial release on charges of second-degree robbery and third-degree theft. He also has prior convictions for first-degree child molestation, second-degree burglary and failing to register as a sex offender, according to court records.
