YAKIMA, Wash. — Bail was set at $125,000 Thursday for a Yakima man accused of being the driver in a gang-related shooting that wounded a man.

The 20-year-old suspect was arrested Wednesday afternoon at a Washington Avenue home, police said.

The shooting was reported in the late morning of Jan. 3 in an alley south of West Nob Hill Boulevard between South Eighth and Ninth avenues.

The suspect appeared Thursday before Judge Doug Federspiel in Yakima County Superior Court.

Federspiel agreed with the state’s requested bail amount. A public defender suggested the bail amount was unconstitutional given the suspect’s lack of criminal history and other factors.

Yakima police said they identified the man as the driver of a car that left the area after the 18-year-old victim was hit in the back by a bullet. He was stabilized following surgery, according to the arrest report.

Police spokesman Mike Bastinelli said no other arrests have been reported in the case. He said detectives continue to investigate.
