The eurozone's third-largest economy and a major exporter, Italy on Wednesday becomes the first western industrialized nation to idle swaths of industrial production to stop the spread of coronavirus by keeping yet more of the population at home. The new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms for most people, but for some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness or death.
