J.C. Penney is closing its department store in Sunnyside.
The Mid-Valley Mall store is one of nearly 150 stores the troubled retailer is shutting down nationwide, the company announced on its website.
Liquidation sales are set to begin July 3, according to the company.
J.C. Penney filed for bankruptcy last month, with the company blaming the coronavirus’ impact on sales for forcing it to file.
This is the second time J.C. Penney will close a store in the Yakima Valley. In 2000, the retailer closed a J.C. Penney location at the now-closed Yakima Mall in downtown Yakima Valley. J.C. Penney opened a store at the Washington Plaza shopping center in Union Gap in 2012.
