NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a Special Election will be conducted on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, in Yakima County, Washington.
Voter registration deadlines: Standard deadline: Applications or updates must be received by an elections official no later than 4pm on Monday, February 1, 2021. Forms are available at any city hall, public school, most libraries, or at the Yakima County Courthouse. Registrations and updates may also be submitted online until midnight at www.votewa.gov. Late deadline: In person registration and updates are allowed until 8pm on election day at the Yakima County Auditor’s Office, 128 N 2nd Street Room 117, Yakima.
Local measures on the ballot: Wahluke School District No. 73 proposition No. 1 concerns a capital levy for health, safety, security and infrastructure improvements; East Valley School District No. 90 Proposition No. 1 concerns a replacement educational programs and operation levy; Selah School District No. 119 Proposition No. 1 concerns a replacement educational programs and operation levy; Bickleton School District No. 203 Proposition No. 1 concerns a replacement maintenance and operations levy; and Granger School District No. 204 Proposition No. 1 concerns a replacement educational programs and operation levy.
Voting by mail: Ballots are mailed to all eligible voters no later than 18 days prior to the election. Replacement ballots: If a qualified voter has an address change, does not receive a ballot, or their ballot is lost, spoiled or damaged, a new ballot is available by contacting the Yakima County Auditor’s Office at 509-574-1340 or at iVote@co.yakima.wa.us. Replacement ballots are also available through Washington State’s secure online ballot marking program at www.votewa.gov. Returning voted ballots: Ballots are counted only if signed by the qualified voter and either postmarked no later than February 9, 2021, or received by the Yakima County Auditor no later than 8:00pm on that date. No postage is required for returning a voted ballot by mail. Ballot drop box locations: •24-hour ballot drop boxes are located at: MLK Blvd across from the County Courthouse, S 8th St and E Edison Ave by the Sunnyside Post Office; 401 Fort Rd, Toppenish, in the Yakama Nation Main Agency Offices parking lot, and 360 Columbia Rd, Parker, by the Fire Station. •Community drop boxes are open at the following city halls during their regular business hours and until 8:00pm on election day: Granger, Moxee, and Selah. •Yakima County Courthouse drop boxes are open at the security station, 128 N 2nd St, Monday-Friday; 8:00am – 4:30pm and Election Day 8:00am – 8:00pm; and the Yakima County Auditor’s Office Room 117 is open Monday-Friday 9:00am-4:00pm and Election Day 8:00am-8:00pm.
Accessible Voting Unit: An ADA compliant and language assistance voting unit is available at the Yakima County Auditor’s Office, 128 N. 2nd St, Room 117, Yakima, during regular business hours 9:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday beginning January 22 through February 8. On election day February 9, the accessible voting unit is available from 8:00am to 8:00pm.
Public meetings: Meetings of the Yakima County Canvassing Board will commence at the Yakima County Election Processing Center, 128 N 2nd St Room B-16, Yakima; on Thursday, February 18, 4:00pm-complete (review of challenged ballots); and Friday, February 19, 12:00pm (certification of the election).
