Pacific Power Nile Spacer Cable System Project

The Naches Ranger District, Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest (OWNF), is considering a request by Pacific Power to authorize the upgrade of approximately 28 miles of an existing 12.47 kilovolt distribution power line on the east slope of the Cascade Range approximately 20 miles northwest of Naches, within northwestern Yakima County, and primarily within the OWNF. The route generally parallels the Little Naches and American rivers and State Highway 410. There would be portions of the line that are rebuilt in place within existing Right-of-Way (ROW), portions removed entirely from poorly accessible areas, and areas of new construction (moving the line to the Highway 410 ROW for improved accessibility). The Project will promote fire mitigation, while maintaining the distribution of electric power to customers, and minimizing potential impact to power service resulting from wildfire and weather events.

The Naches Ranger District is analyzing the project through an Environmental Assessment (36 CFR 220.7) to evaluate the potential impacts from proposed activities.
